Bruno Mars beat out Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift and more for the coveted slot of Billboard’s Artist of the Year.
Mars, who is set to perform at 2014’s Super Bowl, came in at No. 1 on eight of Billboard’s year-end lists, including “Hot 100 Artists,” “Top Overall Artists”, “Hot 100 Singles Airplay”, “Hot Digital Songs,” “Mainstream Top 40” and “Pop Digital Songs.” His most popular tracks from his 2012 album Unorthodox Jukebox included “Locked Out of Heaven”, “Treasure”, and “When I Was Your Man.”
“During a year defined by mainstream breakouts, pop divas, and retro R&B, Mars’ artists of the year nod may come as a surprise,” Billboard writes, “But, as if on a stealth mission, the adventurous ‘Unorthodox Jukebox’ commanded a steady presence on the Billboard 200 folllowing its No. 2 debut last December.”
Bruno Mars’ “Moonshine Jungle” tour also ranked in the top 25 tours of the year. The Latino is set to hit the road again Feb. 28, although the cities and dates have yet to be announced.
Way to go, Bruno!
