Before deciding on a venue, a caterer, a photographer or my dress, I thought it would be a good idea to start looking at wedding invitations. As I mentioned, my wedding is only going to have about 40 guests total. Even though that’s a very intimate wedding, I am still very aware of cost. As in, even though I have a tenth of the amount of people a big fat latin wedding would have, I still feel like I am paying un ojo de la cara for everything. What I am trying to tell you is that this Latina is on the prowl for a deal.
Since I knew my ring was on its way, I took it upon myself to start pre-planning. This included looking through wedding blogs for events with orange as a main color, religiously pouring over reviews of wedding vendors from planners and photographers to caterers and bakers, and, most importantly, rooftop venues.
My first course of action post engagement was to find a wedding planner. That’s because before I became engaged I devoured all the bride blogs, from The Knot to United with Love, and found there was A LOT involved in planning a wedding. Much more than I could have ever imagined! I realized I needed professional help figuring out exactly how to execute my dream wedding on my not so dreamy budget. Enter wedding planner!
There are a billion things that run through your mind after your love pops the question. First you can’t believe it’s happening, then you are jumping excited that it’s happening, then you can’t believe it’s happening again and finally you call family and friends to validate what just happened. Afterwards you stare at each other with googly eyes and really take in what just happened. Soon after that, I am talking minutes, reality dawns on you.
Ever since I was a little girl I have always been one step ahead. When Mami brought out breakfast I would ask what was for lunch. When I was in high school I was thinking about law school, and when I was going off to college my thoughts were on having my own family and being successful, without paying too much attention to who was going to help me build that future. Little did I know that wonderful, generous, kind and amazing looking man was closer than I thought: literally across the hall.
Being healthy doesn’t mean you need to give up your favorite dishes or cocktails. You just need to give them a healthy twist! With these simple tips and tricks you can make any of your Latin favorites healthier, better for you and taste better too.
First off, the basics: Keep fresh fruits and vegetables accessible, front and center. Stay hydrated by drinking lots of water, minimize your salt and sugar intake and don’t keep junk food at home. If you have piroulines you can bet you are going to eat them.
