1. Loose Waves

GET THE LOOK: Start by using a volumizing shampoo and conditioner. Then, work a spray gel into wet strands from roots to ends. Blow-dry using a diffuser: For fullness, tip your head upside down and slowly guide your hair, starting at the ends, into the diffuser cup so that the roots dry with a lift. For a sleeker look, stay upright and pile your hair into the diffuser, focusing on the ends, allowing the roots to stay smooth. Finish with a texture booster and light hair spray for hold.

PRO TIP: Avoid heavy moisturizers that weigh delicate curls down. Look for curl-enhancing stylers (mousses are great) with light flexible polymers that plump curls from inside the hair shaft.

2. Wavy to Curly

GET THE LOOK: After washing and conditioning with a moisturzing shampoo and conditioner, smooth a curl-defining, gel-cream styler through your hair, followed by a liberal mist of sea spray. Diffuse dry, then tip your head upside down and give your curls a good shake to open them up. Create a dramatic side or middle part, smoothing and shaping your curls as you go, and spritz with hair spray.

PRO TIP: Gel creams are this curl’s best friend, thanks to their healthy balance of moisture and hold. This sexy toussled look is perfect for lived-in second- and third- day hair too! To re-create: Spritz on a curl-rejuvenating spray and blast with a diffuser.

3. Tight Curls

GET THE  LOOK: Girls with tight curls also need a hydrating shampoo and conditioner. Then, to style: Apply a curl-softening cream and allow hair to air- dry. Mega volume is best achieved a couple days after you wash. At that time, rejuvenate curls with a light layer of both a moisturizing spray and a texturizing spray and diffuse dry, holding your head upside down for maximum lift. Once hair is completely dry, pick it out using a metal or plastic pick, shaping as you draw the comb outward.

PRO TIP: These curls can look frizzy fast. Creams and oils are life-savers.

4. Coily

GET THE LOOK: Moisture is key, so begin by washing your hair and scalp with a non-stripping co-wash, and follow with a deep conditioner. Allow the conditioner to penetrate for as long as you can before rinsing. Next, apply a leave-in hydrator and, while hair is still wet, work in a curl-defining cream, applying in small sections from roots to tips. Let hair air-dry.

PRO TIP: This hair type can be the most dehydrated, so heavier ingredients like shea butter and argan oil are a must. To keep fragile coils from breaking, sleep with a satin cap.
