The holiday season is the perfect time to sport the quintessential party look: the smoky eye. It’s sexy, flirty and, once you’ve mastered it, super easy. Whether you’re upgrading your day makeup for an after-work fiesta or headed out for a night on the town, here’s how to recreate Demi Lovato’s sultry stare.
Start by priming lids from lashline to brow. Then, add a touch of highlighter to the inner corners of your eyes and at the brow bone. This will brighten the entire look, says Tanya “Carter” Ayer, a makeup artist at Warren-Tricomi Salon in NYC.
Next, apply a navy shadow from the lash line into your crease, covering the entire lid and working your way slightly past outer corners. The further you go, the more dramatic the effect.
Sweep on a dark brown shade from your crease and up to the brow bone. The contrast between navy and brown instantly makes eyes appear larger.
Line upper and lower lashes with a black gel liner using a tiny shadow brush. Get as close to your lashes as possible, starting thin and ending in a thick line that goes up at outer corners.
And don’t forget to cover under eye circles! Use a concealer that’s slightly darker than your foundation for natural-looking coverage.
Use your liner to touch up any bare spots along your lash line then finish with two coats of black mascara. Place a few individual lashes along your outer corner to really make eyes pop.
