Ugandan beauty and former Africa's Next Top Model winner Aamito Lagum responded to the controversy surrounding a photo M.A.C Cosmetics posted on its IG account last week.
The close-up photo of Lagum's full lips drew hundreds of racist and disparaging comments from users. Some compared her to Jay-Z and commented that she had "fish lips." The more offensive commentators pulled out the N-word, with one even saying, "Black women will never be as beautiful as White women."
The backlash against haters was strong and swift, with many praising her gorgeous natural lips.
M.A.C responded to the hoopla by posting a pic on Instagram that said “All Ages, All Races, All Sexes." The accompanying caption read: “M·A·C stands for and respects All Ages, All Races, All Sexes. We celebrate the beauty of individuality, and the confidence to be who you are.”
And Lagum’s response was by far the best. She posted a snapshot of the story on her IG with the caption: “My lips giving you sleepless nights. On @maccosmetics IG. Thank you @maccosmetics for this killer color and to that makeup artist .ama get me 3 of these.”
