Natalie Aguilar DIY Skincare Practices to Add To Your Self-Love Routine

Usually, when we hear we should be practicing self-love, we think that means we should go get a manicure or a quick blowout to boost our confidence. But beauty DIYs are on the rise, and treating yourself with some love in the place you feel most comfortable, your home, is the best way to end our Latina Self-Love Challenge.

We caught up with skintologist Natalie Aguilar from Afterglow Beverly Hills for some beauty DIYs you can add to your skincare routine.

1. Caviar Mask

Caviar is usually associated with fancy date night, but it has a beauty benefit you'll enjoy. Aside from its rich flavor and aphrodisiac properties, caviar also has several anti-aging benefits. Caviar, eggs that are carefully extracted from certain fish, are rich in antioxidants, omega-3 and omega-6, protein and hydrating properties. Because of these properties, Caviar is believed to help with the production of collagen, minimizes inflammation, fights UVA and UVB damage, and deeply nourishes the skin with intense hydration. 
 
This caviar mask will surely treat any complexion that’s lacking luster. 
 
For this heavenly mask, you will need:
1oz of Red or Black Caviar - antioxidant-rich properties
2 teaspoons of plain, Greek Yogurt - gentle exfoliation, promotes healthy bacteria
1 teaspoon of Grape Seed Oil - hydrating properties
4 drops of Bergamot Oil - balancing properties
 
Mix all of the ingredients into a bowl and apply over the face and neck. Allow to sit for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with tepid water and pat dry. Follow with your favorite moisturizer. 

2. Afterwork Love Mask

After a long day of work, we love a multifunctional mask with ingredients that are great for our skin. Below, you can find a DIY glow up face mask: 
 
One of our favorite multifunctional masks includes:
1/2 Cup of Plain Greek Yogurt - gentle exfoliation, promotes healthy bacteria
1 Teaspoon of Manuka Honey - natural humectant and anti-bacterial 
2 Drops of Ylang Ylang essential Oil - promotes sensuality 
2 Drops of Rose Essential Oil - Balancing and beautiful scent
 
Mix all of the ingredients into a bowl and apply over the face and neck. Allow to sit for 15-20 minutes. Rinse with tepid water and pat dry. Follow with your choice of moisturizer.
 

3. Rose Massage Oil

Practice self-love by buying yourself some roses, but not the typical kind. Using rose essential oil helps with balancing and brightening properties for your skin.
 
For this Rose Massage Oil you will need:
1/2 cup of grape seed oil - Great hydrating properties
Eight drops of Rose Essential Oil - Balancing and beautiful scent
Three drops of Ylang Ylang Essential Oil - Helps to increase your sensuality and helps to relax
 
Mix all of the ingredients above and funnel into a small apothecary jar to store by the bedside. This oil is an excellent way to help pamper and relax your significant other. 
 

4. Strawberry Lip Scrub

A sweet-smelling exfoliant that will help to soften and hydrate lips by removing dry, dead skin cells. 
 
For this yummy lip scrub you will need:
1 Teaspoon of Strawberry-flavored Gelatin
1 Teaspoon of Coconut Oil
1 Teaspoon of Granulated Sugar
1 Small Container
 
Gently mix all ingredients in a small bowl. Massage the scrub over lips in gentle, circular motions for 2-minutes. Remove with a damp towel. Pat dry. Follow with your favorite lip balm or a drop of grapeseed oil.
