Inching Our Way Towards Minivan Land

Come next May, my family will grow by one person. We'll have a lovely even number of kids which seems to make everyone else feel comfy and balanced. A lot of people assume we're done after this one. When I gave birth to Dessa, everyone was asking when the next one was coming. Now that I'm pregnant again, people are hoping for my sake that I'll have a boy so we'll be able to close up shop.

Little do they know that we've got plans for at least one more! I'm not sure how we arrived at this decision. I'm an only child and thought for sure I'd have one kid and call it quits. My husband has one brother and always wanted two kids. Then one day we started debating the virtues of minivans vs. SUV's and realized that somewhere along the line we'd decided on three kids.

There's no science behind this choice, just this gut feeling thing that tells us that three kids are in our cards. Don't get me wrong, I'm totally freaking out thinking about the cost of three kids–college, car insurance, after-school activities, groceries. But there have been plenty of families that have done this before me on smaller incomes, so I'm sure we'll figure it out.

We've had a couple of ultrasounds so we know for sure that there's only one baby in my belly right now. I'm nuts and was secretly hoping for twins so that I could handle everything in one pop but that was not in the cards for me. We'll probably wait another year after this baby is born to start trying again. In the meantime, I'll keep harassing Jeremy about how cute and functional I think the Honda Odyssey is and he'll keep trying to convince me that we need a monster SUV like a GMC Yukon. Help a girl out here, ladies. Minivans rock! Right? Sliding doors and tons of space…what more could a girl ask for?

I have always vowed to no mini van ever. However, the Honda O is one van that I always catch myself double taking; it's no Dodge Caravan, that's for sure!
Well... I am on the same boat! I may be going the mini- van route also! I just think about what happens when I have to breastfeed on the side of the road it's going to be easier with a minivan. I hope my minivan has a tv in it...
Before kids I always swore I would never own a minivan. After one kid, I kept on swearing...maybe a bit less fervently. After the second kid, I was begging to ditch the Jeep and buy a minivan. My sister has the newest Odyssey and I drive it whenever I can...LOVE it. Good luck with your decision!
@MeliChaCha My hubby loves the Touareg and who can blame him? It's damn sexy! @bohoglam 2pts minivan, 2pts SUV, I could always give Dessa a vote...she votes minivan too =)
I like the Honda Odyssey way better than an SUV. SUVs are very un-PC.
Sorry, Carlita... I'm one of those people who detests the minivan. I am more in favor of a stylish yet roomy SUV. No GMC Yukons for me, though... we had a Touareg for a while, and I loved it and vowed I'd get another when I pop one day... so... there you go.
