My Super Vagina!

So, I did it! I had a VBAC, or a vaginal birth after cesarean. It's an amazing experience. Did it hurt? Yes. Was it the end of the world? No. After I had Dessa via c-section, I knew I wanted to attempt to have a VBAC with future children. I thought I had been well prepared the first time around but I was shocked by how the use of an epidural for pain management and pitocin to "help" things along really made things worse. Because of the meds I chose to take, I couldn't feel a thing down below. Seriously—NOTHING—including contractions and any natural urges to push.
This time around I felt it all and I was in control of everything. I believe that to each their own; there's no right choice just what's right for you. So your labor has to be what you want it to be. If you're thinking of going au naturel then I say go for it. I'm a big wuss when it comes to pain and I did it. It hurts like heck but it's worth it. I look at my body in a totally different way now - it's powerful and kick ass!
The keys to my success were staying focused, being in control of the situation and reminding myself that every pain was necessary to get to hold my baby. The best part about my delivery has been being able to dive right back into my life with Dessa. Granted I'm not chasing her around as quickly or doing any kind of super mom acts but I'm able to play and roll around with her.
My vagina is pretty damn cool and I'm glad I got the opportunity to see what it can really do.

Your babies are beautiful, Carla! I had a VBAC, too. And while I'd had previous vaginal births (before my c-section with baby #4), my VBAC was definitely the most empowering birth experience because I DID do it after so many people told me I couldn't! :)
I just added a link to your story on my VBAC blog: http://vbac.angelahoy.com
