Dolores dice...Men Wanted

Istock Photo

Dear Dolores:

I'm a 29-year-old professional Latina. I'd love to find a good man—preferably a Latino—to share the rest of my life with. Unfortunately, it's almost impossible to find such a man. I don't know what's going on with our hombres who feel so threatened by intelligent women with good jobs and aspirations. I feel that if I didn't work and stayed home cooking, cleaning and taking care of a bunch of kids all day, I'd have found a man already. What do you think?

Dear Soraya:

Don't despair. Miracles happen every day. Keep your hopes up, but don't center your life around waiting for a Latino in shining armor. Expand your social circle, do unusual recreational activities. Remember not everyone hangs out at the dance club every weekend. And your assumption is wrong: The type of woman you describe becomes like that after finding a man.

I am one of these mujeres! gracias Dolores! I'm waiting patiently without making it a center of my life por un hombre :) enjoying el presente!
I agree with Lanaya, She should totally keep doing what she's doing and the type of man that fits her will complement her lifestyle aunque sea latino, negrito, o chino haha, buena suerte nena!
Uhh, no, this is a great forum. Perhaps what you missed was that the writer was wondering where men that ARE not OPPOSED to the liberation of women today. Besides these are blogs, we ALL have opinions..... just like mmm, other body parts . LOL
Wow...really, just wow. This is my first exposure to this forum and I was momentarily glad to see that there was not only a magazine dedicated to Latina women, but an advice column to boot! As you can see, I used the work MOMENTARILY. First of all, I did not gather from Soraya's question that she was looking for men in dance clubs. I understand her plight and think that a more appropriate response would have been to tell her to focus on becoming the woman she wants to be and will then attract the type of man who best suits her - whether he is Latino or not is irrelevant. I was horrified to then read that once a woman actually finds the man she was seeking that she stays home to cook, clean and take care of kids. Am I remiss in thinking that Latinos perhaps have not yet caught onto the idea of women's liberation in 2009?
