So the summer is creeping up on us and the one question most of us are asking ourselves is: Are we ready for that bikini yet? Personally the answer is no; but I’m working on that. And I’m really hoping Mario Lopez (yes, Mario Lopez) will help me via his new book, Extra Lean: The Fat-Burning Plan That Changes The Way You Eat For Life (Celebra, $24.95). Lopez isn't a first-time author (I greatly enjoyed his children’s book, Mud Tacos). Here he partners with health physiologist and personal trainer Jimmy Pena to share his personal, fool-proof plan for permanent weight loss (or so he claims). He argues that eating certain foods can trigger feelings of guilt while extreme diets often feel too restricting. Lopez defnes being extra lean as having one’s body conditioned to burn fat continuously while being able to enjoy eating (Amen!). According to Lopez, there are three components to achieving this goal:
Balanced intake of carbs, protein, and fat
Proper portion control
Frequent meals and snacks
Along with Lopez’s own seven-week plan to fire-up your metabolism, Extra Lean also includes over 40 recipes such as:
Buttermilk blueberry pancakes

I'm not a huge cook, but if I can eat chicken enchiladas and still lose weight, I'm so sold!
