Colombian Mother Arrested For Selling Her 12 Daughters' Virginities

A Colombian woman is facing prison time for allegedly selling her daughters’ virginity.

According to the Huffington Post, Bogotá mother Margarita Zapata Moreno, 41, is accused of selling the virginity of each of her 12 daughters, charging men who had a “favorable financial situation” around $300 per minor.

Zapata was turned into police by one of her daughters, now 16-years-old. The daughter now has a child as a result of the alleged sexual abuse. Her testimony indicated that the mother drugged her daughters and forced them to have sex with the men.

Additionally, the mother allegedly forced several of her daughters to prostitute themselves, according to El Tiempo. The daughter who testified said she had been sexually abused since the age of 12. When she became pregnant, her mother told her to get an abortion.

Tito Cornelia Daza, 51, the reported father of the daughter’s child, was also detained and is believed to have abused at least one of the girls.

Daza and Zapata could face up to 25 years in prison. Both deny the accusations.
