Quinceañeras have become quite the trend; even in Hollywood. Just ask Bella Thorne, the Cuban American Shake It Up star who’s been planning hers since she was 13. She celebrated her 15th birthday in the heart of Tinseltown Saturday with family, friends and Disney costars.
“They say a quinceañera is as big as your wedding, so we got in as many traditions as we could,” said Thorne, who arrived Cinderella style in a horse-drawn carriage with a full court that included her brother, sisters, and Shake It Up costar Zendaya. “We’re doing the cake knife, which I got engraved with butterflies and will use on my wedding day, and I’m also doing the waltz.”
Thorne transitioned into womanhood wearing a beautiful pastel pink heart-shaped gown she designed with Sherri Hill to resemble the actual dress she wants to wear on her wedding day. Adorned with light specks of glitter and a sequin belt, Thorne stayed true to her flawless sense of style.
As for the menu, the strawberry blonde starlet went all Latin with rice, beans, plantains, steak, chicken, flan, and a tres leches cake. In lieu of gifts, Thorne had guests bring gift cards and canned food that she’ll donate to the Los Angeles Food Bank.
“My father always wanted me to have a quinceañera, so tonight not only am I honoring him, but everyone here is too,” Thorne said of her father who died in a car accident.
Disney stars like Let It Shine’s Coco Jones and Trevor Jackson, Pair of King’s Ryan Ochoa, and Kickin’ It’s Dylan Riley Snyder walked the rep carpet excited for their first dose of quince fun.
“I’m actually a quarter Mexican,” said Snyder. “I’ve learned a little bit about the tradition so I think it’s cool I get to go to one now.”
While Thorne prepares for this new phase of her life, the Alma and Imagen Award winner is also nurturing her singing career. She just recorded a Christmas song and is releasing a new single, “Get Your Head in the Game,” before the end of the year.
