New Latino Webseries: "Our Stories Are American Stories"

East Willy B, a webseries profiling a new generation of Latinos in New York, hopes to change the idea of the young Latino and marketers' understanding of the demographic.

"We affectionately like to call it the 'Latino Cheers' set in gentrifying Brooklyn," co-creator Julia Ahumada Grob told the New York Times

The series set up a $50,000 in 50 days Kickstarter campaign -- and has thus far raised more than that amount. The series follows Willy Jr., played by Flaco Navaja, as he tries to save his longstanding sports bar in Bushwick. With a mostly Latino cast, the series spotlights different characters and storylines that the creators believe ring true to U.S.-born Latinos.

"I think that's what's really important that people understand about this next generation Latino is that instead of trying to market towards this idea of someone that's come from a different country, people need to start realizing that our stories are American stories," said co-creator Yamin Segal.
