Marc Anthony’s at the Grammys. So are other Latino celebs like Bruno Mars, Fergie, Sheila E., Mario Lopez, Swizz Beatz and Esperanza Spalding. But where is Jennifer Lopez?
The Puerto Rican superstar—who we rely on to turn heads and make jaws drop with her bold red carpet fashion choices (like her infamous Green Versace dress to the 2000 Grammys or that sexy, short Emilio Pucci dress she wore to last year's Grammys!)—was noticeably absent from tonight's star-studded Grammy telecast.
We have to admit: one of our reasons for watching the Grammys every year is that we want to see what J.Lo will wear to the show. And this year, we were really excited because just days ago, La Lopez told Access Hollywood that she would wear the Green Versace dress she wore 12 years ago to a red carpet event."I would wear something like that now," Lopez said. "I wouldn't have a problem with it."
While we didn't get to see J.Lo on the red carpet tonight, we did get to see her in a commercial for Harman Kardon, which aired during the Grammy Awards. A manufacturer of home and car audio equipment, Harman Kardon paid about $800,000 (per each commercial) to advertise during tonight's CBS Grammy telecast. The company debuted two new spots during the show (one featured Paul McCartney), and the other was the U.S. premiere of a home entertainment spot starring Jennifer Lopez (featuring an original 30-second score composed by Will.i.am). Both spots were directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale, The Green Lantern).
Of course, it's not entirely surprising that J.Lo didn't show up tonight. After all, she's been really busy lately. In addition to the new commercial, La Lopez has been promoting the launch of her 18th fragrance "Glowing," and last month she returned as a judge to FOX's hit singing competition, American Idol.
We understand that J.Lo is a busy woman and couldn't make it to this year's Grammy Awards. But J.Lo, we hope you'll return next year. The red carpet is just not the same without you!
