The world has a new Miss Universe.
A 23-year-old dental student from France won the Miss Universe pageant in the Philippines. Iris Mittenaere revealed that she would focus her reign on helping underprivileged children in school. This is the first French woman to win in more than 60 years. Miss Haiti, Raquel Pelissier, was first runner-up while Miss Colombia, Andrea Tovar, was second runner-up.
"I think France and Europe really need a Miss Universe," Mittenaere said. "French people will love it now and every year they will be watching Miss Universe. I'm very proud to bring this crown to Europe."
Miss Haiti spoke very candidly about getting the opportunity to be at the pageant after surviving the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti in 2010 that killed more than 300,000 people.
"If I am here today, it is because I am living my dreams," she said.
Steve Harvey hosted the pageant again this year after his flub last year. For those who don't remember, Harvey announced Miss Colombia as the winner of Miss Universe after it was actually Miss Philippines.
"I got it right," he joked. "One thing I learned in life, when you make a mistake, you gotta keep on moving forward man, that's all."
We can't wait to see what Miss France gets up to during her reign.
