Salma Hayek is a new woman ever since the birth of her daughter, Valentina Paloma, and in more ways than one. For starters, she originally wanted a boy! “Probably because I was afraid. I think women suffer a bit more than boys,” the actress confesses in the April issue of Glamour. “But now that she’s here, I’m so happy she’s a girl…I love everything she does. If she does a poop and I have to change the diaper, I love that moment!"
In the interview, with actress, close friend and Vagina Monologues creator Eve Ensler, Hayek also talks about her involvement with V-Day, her pal’s movement to raise awareness about violence against women, and recalls a time when she personally witnessed domestic abuse in Mexico.
“I was taking a walk with my family, and we came upon a man beating up this woman. My father intervened and fought the man and won…then the woman turned around and started beating up my father…after that I became very intrigued with what makes a woman stay in an abusive relationship. How does her spirit break?”
As for her own relationship, Hayek seems to think nothing odd of her controversial, long-distance engagement to billionaire fashion mogul Francois-Henri Pinault, who works out of Paris while she and baby Valentina live in Los Angeles. “To most women it’s crazy…but you have to be brave enough to say, ‘This is who we are: We might not look like the perfect couple, or like our parents did, but this is our love story.’” As for whether they’ll ever get married, she responds, “Probably. Will it make a difference? I hope not. I don’t have a need for marriage…maybe we’ll just make the party!” Hmm…still sounds a little raro to us, but who are we to judge?
