Rosie Perez is one fearless boricua

In The Counselor, Perez plays Ruth, a convict who is represented by the unnamed counselor, played by Michael Fassbender. Ruth makes life difficult for him after he’s involved in a drug deal gone wrong. The Ridley Scott directed flick co-stars Penelope Cruz, Javier Bardem, Cameron Diaz, and Brad Pitt.

In an interview with The Huffington Post, the actress said she was immediately drawn to the script, and fought for the part, even when her management company told her no one thought she was right for it.

The actress, however, wasn’t afraid to tackle a challenging and unexpected role. She said, “[My management] said, ‘Rosie, do you want to fight for it?’ And I said, ‘100 percent!’ And I had to do it quickly, too, because they were about to hire somebody...and I already had it in my mind that she’s a badass and she’s a boss.”

However, despite’s Perez dedicated to her career, she also takes time to enjoy her many other talents. In fact, the Puerto Rican is an avid boxing fan, even operating a Twitter account dedicated to the sport. “I use [Twitter] only for boxing because I was watching Showtime, and they have boxing, and they were showing tweets. And I have never seen that before. And I looked at my now husband and said, ‘I want to tweet something!’ and he fell out laughing!”
