Chilean Cardinal Loves Pinochet, Hates Madonna
Chilean Cardinal Loves Pinochet, Hates Madonna
Madonna's going to need more than a prayer to escape this condemnation. According to the AP, retired Chilean Cardinal Jorge Medina Estevez recently gave a homily in honor of the ruthless dictator Augusto Pinochet, then went on to criticize Madonna, saying, "This woman comes here and in an incredibly shameless manner she provokes a crazy enthusiasm, an enthusiasm of lust, lustful thoughts, impure thoughts."
We're not really sure how the Cardinal arrived at the illogical comparison of Madonna and Pinochet, but isn't having a hand in the murder and disappearance of thousands of people a bit more sinful than being responsible for a little bump and grind?
The singer is in Latin America for her current world tour Sticky and Sweet. Madonna's Chilean fans seem to remain unfazed by the Cardinal's criticism. Devotees camped out in the capital city for three days to get good seats at her shows and more than 60 thousand fans are expected at each of her concerts this week in Santiago's Estadio Nacional.
