Christina Aguilera was nowhere to be seen during a Prince tribute concert.
The singer was supposed to attend and perform at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. Moments before the show was supposed to start, a concert publicist said the singer had canceled her scheduled apperance due to a "vocal illness." Jessie J took her place in the lineup.
A rep for Aguilera said she "has been advised by her doctors not to perform due to a vocal illness she has been trying to shake all week."
Stevie Wonder and Chaka Khan brought the stage to light during the concert just six months after the famous singer passed away. Thousands of fans came out wearing purple shirts and scarves. St Paul's mayor, Chris Coleman, proclaimed Thursday Prince Day. President Barack Obama delivered a taped message at the concert as well.
"I want them to get some closure," Tyka Nelson, Prince's younger sister, said. "It takes time to kind of get over it, and I see that they are grief-stricken."
Prince passed away of an accidental painkiller overdrose on April 21, 2016 and will forever be remembered by his fans, friends and family.
We are sad that Aguilera missed out.
