Two Artists Channeled Selena, Rita Moreno & More — And the Results are Amazing!

Iris Chacon, Rita Moreno, Selena, Frida Kahlo — these women have all been game changers within our community and beyond.

New York playwright and filmmaker, Linda Nieves-Powell, has launched a tribute titled "Latina Icons," in their honor. Starring Rebecca Gitana Torres as the model (and also style director), the photo series, which highlights Chacon, Moreno, Selena, Carmen Miranda, Maria Montez and Frida, pays homage to the contributions these women made as pioneers in the entertainment world. With this project, Nieves-Powell hopes to inspire feminists across the globe.

"The Latina Icons project is a photo tribute honoring Latina trailblazers. I believe that it's important to acknowledge the work of those who came before us in order to evaluate our progress, our evolution, and our future, as women and as Latinas," Nieves-Powell said on the project's site. "These six icons for me represent everything that Latinas have to offer: beauty, fearlessness, intelligence, innovation, talent, and cultural pride. We have it all, we are more than just stereotypes, and we will continue to be a force to be reckoned with."
