Mariah Carey is getting a huge honor at the GLAAD Media Awards.
The LGBT media organization is presenting the singer with the Ally Award, which is given to "a media figure who has consistently used their platform to support and advance LGBT equality and acceptance," Billboard reports. Director Lee Daniels will be the one to present Carey with the award. Other celebrities that have been presented with the award include Janet Jackson, Cher, Russell Simmons, Elizabeth Taylor and Patti LaBelle.
“Through her music and outspoken support, Mariah Carey has inspired and empowered countless LGBT fans across the globe,” GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis said in a statement sent to The Hollywood Reporter and Billboard. “She is a longtime ally and friend to the LGBT community who has worked tirelessly to move acceptance and inclusion forward.”
Demi Lovato, Ruby Rose and Lilly Wachowski were all honored at the ceremony in Los Angeles earlier this month. At the upcoming ceremony in New York Robert De Niro will be receiving the Excellence in Media Award.
