Today, April 21, 2017, marks the first anniversary of Prince's death.
Mayte Garcia, the icon's first wife, released a memoir earlier this month titled, The Most Beautiful: My Life With Prince, chronicling her relationship with Prince. The Puerto Rican dancer wrote about everything from the moment they met to the call she received when the legendary artist was found dead in an elevator at his Paisley Park estate. Garcia notes that the phone call came from Prince's second ex-wife, Manuela Testolini, whom she says she shares a "strange bond" with.
"Prince passed away so suddenly. I wasn't ready," she wrote in The Most Beautiful. "It's been years since I last saw him, but I have always cherished what we had and honored his privacy."
The belly-dancing beauty continued: "I will never fully close this chapter of my life. I struggled with the idea of writing this book because, even after all this time, part of me still needs his approval."
Garcia stopped by our office here at Latina to discuss Prince and her book. Watch above as she reads excerpts and takes us into a deep dive for each — it's one emotional video.
