Boricua hip-hop producer Swizz Beatz—who recently announced that he and Alicia Keys are engaged and expecting!—stopped by Good Day New York this week. While the musician was there to talk about his charitable work with the local Bronx Charter School for the Arts, the conversation was quickly steered towards his recent trip with Keys to South Africa for the World Cup kick-off festivities.

The couple spent some time in Africa after the concert and had quite an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime experience. Their union and baby were blessed by the elder women in a local village they visited in Durban, who took them under a healing fig tree that they believe has positive energy. “It turned into this ceremony that I didn’t know about. I felt like I was on Punk’d or something! But, yes we had a special blessing,” admitted Swizz Beatz.

Mariela Rosario,

I'm a raging opinionista and I love to share my ramblings on everything from pop culture to food to stuff that makes me laugh & cry! I've worked in all types of media (TV, film, print) and was previously the online editor at Latina magazine before joining Mamás Latinas. On most nights you can find me working my way through my library of cookbooks or playing with my puppy Lola (my only child so far). I have a wonderful hubby who shares my passion for any and all kinds of travel. Together, we've formed a semi-professional wine drinking team.
