The remake, which was confirmed in March, is getting a little role reversal. The classic movie tells the story of a spoiled, selfish heiress (played by Goldie Hawn) who eventually falls for a working-class carpenter, played by Kurt Russell. In the remake, however, Faris will star as the female protagonist, who is a single, working mother. Derbez will play a playboy who comes from one of Mexico's wealthiest families. He falls overboard his yacht, and is then convinced by Faris' character that he is her husband. Longoria will play Faris' friend and boss at a pizzeria, according to Deadline.
Just yesterday, Faris took to Twitter to express her excitement for Longoria joining the team. "So thrilled!!" @EvaLongoria," she wrote. Though the actress is most used to her roles on television, such as on Desperate Housewives and Telenovela, she has starred in a few big-screen roles, including "Frontera" and "Over Her Dead Body."
THe 42-year-old star has also taken on the role as director. Aside from directing and producing Telenovela, she's also run the show on an episode of Jane the Virgin and Black-ish. “I knew when I was on set [as an actress] I wasn’t reaching my full potential as a human being, and I love telling people what to do ― I’m really good at it,” Longoria said. “I say this confidently, not arrogantly. I’m a really good director because I’m a woman, because directing is about problem-solving and I think woman are the best problem solvers in the world.”
Filming for the upcoming film will reportedly begin in Canada this week.
