A new take on the classic tale of Beauty and the Beast is in the works and Mexican director Guillermo del Toro is at the helm. The deal for the film, entitled Beauty, began last spring and has since had Emma Watson come on board to play the title character while Andrew Davies was brought on to write the script. The film was originally based off Robin McKinley’s novel Beauty: A Retelling of the Story of the Beauty and the Beast but has since taken on a life of its own according to The Hollywood Reporter.
This is just one of many projects del Toro currently has on his plate. The talented filmmaker is presently shooting Pacific Rim, directing Trollhunters and consulting for DreamWorks Animation, developing a Haunted Mansion movie for Disney and is said to be coming on to direct a Frankenstein project as well as one about Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, both for Universal.
