Jay Hernandez is one hottie that you don’t want to miss in the movie Bad Moms. He plays the hot dad that starts up a little something with Mila Kunis’ character. We see these two get into all sexual trouble and we just can’t get enough. We spoke to Hernandez about his role and what it was like to film a sex scene with one of the most beautiful women in the world. Check out what he had to say and make sure to go out and buy the Bad Moms DVD & Blu-Ray Disc out Nov. 1.
Talk to us about your character.
I play Jesse, a widower who has a daughter at the same school that Mila Kunis’ character goes to. We develop a little relationship because the guy she’s with doesn’t respect her, appreciate her and cheats on her. I come in and I’m considered to be the hot single dad at the school. She woos me in a way too. Jesse is a nice guy. Everybody at the school thinks he’s hot.
What was it like for you to work with Mila Kunis and the rest of the cast?
It was great. I haven’t been on many comedy sets, so it was a bit of a new experience for me. All these women were super talented, prepared, and hilarious. It’s a different experience, I’ve done a lot of drama, some horror, some action, different genres but to be on a comedy set is a pretty different thing, so I was excited about it. Watching them improv and do their thing was a bit of a class. I think I learned a bit there.
What would you say are some of the things you learned?
Don’t put a filter on yourself when you’re doing improv. The directors would throw them a line or say, “Hey this ones for you, do whatever you want,” and half the stuff that they said you probably couldn’t even put in the film, it was either vulgar or off the wall but it was always funny. It was really fun to watch that go down. The gag real, if they put one on the DVD is going to be pretty extensive.
As an actor, what was it like to take on a new role so different from the one you played in Suicide Squad?
You mentioned Suicide Squad, that contrast was part of the reason why I wanted to do it. I liked the character and it felt so different than the character I played in Suicide Squad. I think showing that range is important for me as an actor. I also just like challenging myself. Comedy is a very different thing and I wanted to explore that world. It was cool, I had fun, I would love to do it again.
What would you say you really loved about taking on the role of Jess?
Honestly, just watching the women work. Some of the improv that came out of that was so natural because they were so committed to who they were and they had a real deep understanding of their characters. It’s the same thing in different genres but it manifests in comedy. Ultimately, it was a fun experience.
How do you think that you related to your character in the film?
I’m generally a pretty kind person so there’s that. I love kids and being around them. I have a big family. It’s funny because it wasn’t always like that. When I was younger I hated being around kids, I couldn’t stand it. As you get older your perspective changes and its different, it’s fun. I like it, I like watching them experience things for the first time. I think that’s one of the things that’s really cool.
How would you say you guys are different?
We’re pretty similar in a lot of ways. In some ways maybe I’m more cynical than Jesse is.
What was it like for you to get to film a sex scene with Mila Kunis?
For me, those are always awkward. It’s funny, your guy friends, will be like, “Hey, how was that scene?” They think it’s something that it’s definitely not. We have relationships, there’s 40 people around you, it just is what it is. Often times it’s pretty funny.
Do you have any funny stories from set?
Nothing wild. I found myself in a total mom conversation about sprouted seeds, kombucha, natural eating, whole foods and organic stuff. We got in a pretty extensive conversation about food and what you should and should not feed your kid which was pretty funny.
Jesse in the film is the hot dad. Would you say you consider yourself a hot dad?
No, no that’s not me. That’s how me and Jesse are different.
Did your family watch the movie?
Yes. Actually it’s funny because my parents called me, I didn’t even know they had been to the theater and it was right when they walked out, they were both dying. They said how funny it was and unexpected. I was surprised because my dad is a very masculine man and he appreciated all the comedy.
Do you see yourself doing more comedy?
I would love to. If they want to bring me back for another one, I would definitely be down.
What else are you working on?
I’m starting something but I can’t say what it is yet. I’m also producing a couple things. I’m trying to stay busy and trying to continue to find characters that challenge me. I guess you can also say I’m on the hunt.
