Daily News columnist and college professor, Juan Gonzalez’s revolutionary non-fiction narrative titled, Harvest of Empire: A History of Latinos in America, is being adapted into a documentary. Outlining the socio-political struggles and triumphs of Latinos in the U.S., Juan also tackles issues of acculturation and identity.
“We have developed a whole new Latino identity. Look at my family. I’m Puerto Rican. I’m married to a Dominican. Our child is Puerto Rican and Dominican, but also American,” he explains to The Daily News, “She has two cultural heritages. Now you have kids identifying as Latino, but their heritage is a big kaleidoscope. They might not even speak Spanish, but they still identify as Latino.”
