Today, March 21, 2017, marks 20 years since the debut of Selena.

Over 20,000 women auditioned for the role of Selena Quintanilla before losing it to rising star at the time, Jennifer Lopez. (Little known fact: Salma Hayek was also in the running.) But one in particular, an aspiring actress by the name of Lizzette Padilla, who also went for the part, bore quite the resemblance to the late Queen of Tejano.

Fans recently started sharing side-by-side comparison photos of Padilla and Selena, questioning why she didn't get the part. Despite not getting the role in the 1997 biopic, all was not lost for the Guatemalan actress — Padilla went on to play the "Como la Flor" singer in The Selena Murder Trial: E! True Hollywood Story.
