What was the best part of filming, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2?
“I was a fan of the books long before I got cast, so stepping on that set and seeing all those faces of characters I had imagined in my head for years in real life, right in front of me, was so surreal! It was the ultimate fan experience and a moment I will never forget it!"
How did you prepare for your role as a vampire?
“My character Huilen is a native of the Mapuche tribe in Chile, so I did lots of research as to their way of life, their beliefs and their culture. As native people -- I am Latina and Native American -- we are generally quite connected to earth, so I channeled that part of myself to bring a sense of awareness and balance to her character."
What was the audition process like?
“The audition process for Breaking Dawn was one of those times in life where everything in the universe conspires in your favor. I had all my family and friends praying for me, and though I remember being nervous on the drive over to casting, I remember saying to myself, ‘Someone has to get this. Why can't it be me? It will be me!’ And with that attitude I went in, read once, and that was it. They called my agent a few weeks later to say I got the part!”
Are you team Edward or Jacob?
“Oh man, I have a story about this one. I was Team Edward all the way from the start. I never understood what everyone always saw in Jacob. He was too muscular for me, but then I happened to be walking to set one day not looking where I was going and literally ran into Taylor Lautner! He flashed this beautiful smile at me and asked if I was ok, and I was literally speechless! I changed my mind after that day. They're both just so amazing in different ways. I can now simply say I'm Team Jakeward!"
What other projects are you working on in the future?
“I am so blessed to say I have several projects up my sleeve! Taking a cue from Latinas I admire like, Salma Hayek and Eva Longoria, I founded a production company called, Monarch Media Productions. Our goal is to create innovative work that challenges stereotypes and promotes diversity."
