Zoe Saldana was once a feminine tomboy—or so our September cover girl described herself in the September issue of GQ. “I had my plastic swords, my ninja stars,” she said, “but I still wore lipstick.”
Perhaps this still describes the 33-year-old part Dominican, part Puerto Rican actress? Her lead role in the upcoming action movie Colombiana (opening in theaters across the country on August 26) would support the claim. The film, about a young woman who becomes an assassin in order to avenge the murder of her parents, shows Saldana wielding a gun just as handily as she dons her sexy outfits.
Saldana also spoke to the magazine about her attraction to unique roles, like Neytiri in Avatar. “It gets pretty boring when all you are is the support system for a male character,” she said. “I want to be in the small percentage of women who don’t settle for conventional roles.”
