We’re swaying right now. Mariah Carey shook up social media this morning after dropping her new single “#Beautiful,” a sweet melodic song featuring Miguel.
The song, which was written by both Carey and Miguel, kicks off with guitar licks and features lyrics like “I like when you run red lights/Don't stop 'til you thrill me/Oh, how you thrill me.” The song feels very Motown to us, and we can’t help but be enamored by how rich both Carey and Miguel’s voices sound intertwined. The lyrics could be so much better though; for example, “With an ass like that/and a smile so bright/Oh, you’re killing me”… really? We would have been okay with just the compliment on our smile.
We also want to point out Carey's genius - or whoever on her team came up with naming this song as a hashtag. Exactly why the superstar was trending for a good chunk of this morning and had her "Lambs" going crazy on Twitter. Well done, team.
The song’s global launch took place in the wee hours of this morning and is now available on iTunes. “#Beautiful” is the lead track from the American Idol judge’s much-anticipated new album (set to drop this summer) – which we can’t wait to hear.
We can enjoy the song now, but have to wait until Wednesday to watch Carey’s video for “#Beautiful.” The video will premiere during American Idol, and will then appear on VEVO/YouTube and all video channels.
