When she started dating teen superstar Justin Bieber a few months ago, Selena Gomez's privacy went from minimal to non-existent. The 18-year-old star has been photographed kissing and cuddling with the Bieb's, holding hands at red carpet events, and sharing a private moment on a yacht in the Caribbean. Selena has also received a host of death threats from Bieber's adoring young female fans.
Still, none of this makes Selena want to keep her relationship with the Bieb's a secret. In a new interview with Seventeen magazine, Selena explains why she has decided to live her life with Bieber out in the open for all the world to see. “I don’t like hiding,” said the 18-year-old star, who just wrapped her final season as the star of Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place. “I do like to keep certain things to myself, but at the end of the day, I’m eighteen, and I’m going to fall in love. I’m going to hang out with people, and I’m going to explore myself, and I’m okay with that.”
About those death threats, Selena says she understands how passionate Bieber's female fans are about the young star, especially since she was once a young girl with a major crush on someone older. “Are you kidding me? I’m still thinking Zac Efron’s my husband,” she jokes.
And while it's obvious that Selena and Justin are having fun together, Selena tells the magazine she's never been in love. “I maybe had a first love and had my heart broken, but reflecting on it, I don’t think that was love. I think that was just me being fifteen and going, 'Oh my gosh! I know I’m in love. I’m going to marry him,'" she says. "I think as I’m getting older and having more in-depth relationships, maybe I’ll experience it. At the moment, I don’t know, exactly, if I’ve been in love."
Selena, whose new movie Monte Carlo comes out on July 1, was also asked if she’s still close to her former best friend, Demi Lovato, who recently spent several months in rehab for emotional and physical issues. “Yes, of course,” said Gomez. “There’s an amount of love that can never—no matter what—be taken away or torn apart, no matter the situation. There are certain people who you will always, always love, so if anything, this just reminded me of how much I truly love her,” she said.
