Those of you watching the Oscars red carpet were lucky enough to steal a peek of the feature film directed and written by Mexican-American Aurora Guerrero. The movie, Mosquita y Mari, was filmed in Los Angeles’ Huntington Park and focuses on the lives of two high school Chicanos. With her clever expertise Guerrero guides viewers through the ups and downs in the lives of students Yolanda (Fenessa Pineda) and Mari (Venecia Troncoso), study partners turned friends, as they experience peer pressure, immigration issues and parental problems. To her surprise and delight, Guerrero's first feature film was chosen to be shown at the famed Sundance Film Festival in January.
