ABC Benches "Ugly Betty"
by Shani Saxon-Parrish | 01.26.2009 | 5:44pm | 4 Comments

Uh-oh. Things are not looking pretty for Ugly Betty. EW reports ABC is benching Betty beginning March 26 and replacing it with episodes of Samantha Who? and the new Megan Mullally-Cheryl Hines comedy In the Motherhood. The network says, "Ugly Betty will return to Thursday nights at 8:00 p.m. following the run of In the Motherhood and Samantha Who?" The powers that be go on to insist that “Betty is a solid performer and there is no question that it will definitely be back to complete its season, just without repeats." No word on exactly when that will be.
We’re going to try to remain positive on this one and hope that Betty comes back stronger than ever. Tell us what you think. Do you watch Ugly Betty? Will you miss it while it's off the air?

I hate hate hate when the networks cancell our Latino shows!! Obviously they don't realize that we enjoy watching shows about our culture and ethnicity. They cancelled Betty, and for what? More white chick shows!!! Aren't there enough of those??They cancelled Freddy (OK sometimes that was dumb), they cancelled George Lopez (his show was well written and funny) and now Betty. I don't want to watch telenovelas in spanish, I want Latino shows that I can watch with my entire family in english. Please ABC don't cancell Ugly Betty.

I am disappointed! My family and I have been watching Ugly Betty since day one and it's part of our Thursday night routine. I was surprised last week when we sat down to watch the show and another show was on instead. I have enjoyed how all the characters have developed and matured. I love that it's really filmed in NY. This season the show seems much better, deeper, darker at times and more developed. The writing seems different and more involved. The new choices in music are fantastic. I love that we get to see a Latina woman who has studied hard and is working hard to achieve her goals and aspirations. She is dealing with who she is culturally and feels the tug of war between both worlds. She is growing and is seeing that her own stereo types are being challanged. Betty is an example that our surname and skin color should not matter. She is smart, intelligent, well spoken and just adorable! I hate to see a great show that is specifically about a Hispanic character get cancelled. Latinas, whether young or older (as myself) need to see themselves represented not replaced! I will without a doubt miss the show while it is off the air. I do hope that ABC does not cancel Ugly Betty.

TV is a hot mess right now. Seriously. Not even ABC can escape the madness. But I'm kind of over America Ferrera. She was cool for a hot minute, but when you compare her to someone like Tina Fey, she really isn't that talented. I also think her ego was getting a little too healthy (remember when she rolled her eyes at blake lively during that interview for sisterhood?) who does she think she is? when was the last big hollywood movie she was in? she isn't exactly the easiest person to cast. i know that sounds horrible, but it is the truth.
