America Ferrera explores human trafficking and the sex trade in India for the second part premiere of Half The Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide on PBS.
The documentary special, based on the best-seller by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn, premiered with Eva Mendes’ journey in Sierra Leone yesterday and will feature the End of Watch actress visiting The New Light Shelter tonight.
The Ugly Betty star and ambassador for Save the Children has also dedicated her time to making sure Latinos get to the polls in November thanks to her partnership with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute.
When it comes to helping women and young children in India, America says in the episode, “I try to understand how a 10-year-old girl is doomed to be sold for sex,” she continues, “I know that this exists around the world, but it never stops being painful.”
