It certainly looks like our next American Idol winner may be a Latino! The top 10 were revealed during last night’s performance, and it was bitter sweet. While we had to say adios to Tenna Torres and Elijah Liu, Devin Velez and Lazaro Arbos claimed their victory spots with full force.
Velez, the Puerto Rican singer from Chicago, sang a flawless bilingual rendition of “Somos Novios,” which left the judges and fans at home in awe. Yeah, we doubt the 18-year-old is going to return to his barista job anytime soon! As the giant doors opened up to reveal Velez on stage, his mother Sandra was invited on stage to give her son a hug. Yes, we are suckers for that stuff!
Another highlight of the show was when Arbos made his dramatic reveal. The Cuban singer, who has a speech impediment, performed Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good” and was cheered by the audience and the four judges alike on Wednesday night. “It impresses me how you throw yourself into whatever song you’re doing despite whatever adversity you have had to overcome,” said Mariah Carey.
We are pretty impressed to! Congrats to Velez and Arbos!
