EXCLUSIVE: Carla Jimenez on 'The Mick,' Latina Stereotypes & Cats

Fox’s The Mick has come roaring into 2017 and made it its beeyotch. Led by Kaitlin Olson (FXX’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), the comedy is hilarious, crude, brilliant and shows women as badass personalities. Olson’s sidekick is Alba (played by Carla Jimenez), the maid (don’t get discouraged she’s way more than the hackneyed stereotype, who matches wits and gruesome acts with Mick.

Here, we speak with Jimenez about being part of the funniest new show of the season.

Alba is so sweet but also so devilish. Which side is better to play?

Of course, the devilish side! There's something about someone thinking your character is one way and then she just does something surprising.

Your chemistry with Kaitlin Olson is awesome. Did you instantly click when you met?

I was nervous when I first met her. I admired her and her comedic abilities a lot. I just wanted to do a good job, but after meeting her, she really put me at ease and it's been amazing getting to play off her.

Have you ever had a friend like Mick?

I've had variations of Mick. I might have even been her once or twice in my life, but I'm going to plead the 5th on what I did those times.

You’re portraying a maid, which has long been a Latina stereotype. Were you apprehensive auditioning for a maid role? If so, what changed your mind?

To be honest, yes. The breakdown said, "she is the maid" but the audition screamed "she is anything but just a maid". It was so out of box different. I was excited to see where it was going and so far, the guys (Chernin Brothers) have not disappointed.

Alba does some pretty crazy stuff (drugs, smashing people over the head with vases, etc.). What’s the craziest thing you’ve done?

I think the things I've done in my life are pretty tame compared to Alba's life!!

You have cats! What are their names? Do you dress them up?

I have two kitties, Joey & Max. Joey is what I call a "creamcicle" kitty (orange/white) while Max is my little tuxedo cat that always looks dressed for a fancy dinner. Needless to say, I love them very much and yes I do dress them up in outfits they do not like.

Does Alba’s personality remind you of anyone in your family or inner circle?

I take pieces of my sisters, my parents, and use them in Alba. My family is so wonderfully crazy and funny, that there is a lot of comedy gold to mine from there!

Where do you see Alba in five years?

On her own yacht called the "libélula" and still partying with Mickey.

What would Alba say to Trump?

NOTHING. She has NOTHING to say to him.

Watch The Mick Tuesdays at 8:30/7:30c on Fox.
