The fifth season of the hit drama Castle is hitting the primetime airwaves this fall, and we can't wait to see more of Jon Huertas as Detective Javier Esposito. The Puerto Rican actor, who is nominated for an ALMA Award for "Favorite TV Actor Supporting Role in a Drama," is a proud Air Force veteran with a comedic side. Just watch his skit on Funny or Die to get a sense of his satirical humor.

Jon spoke exclusively to Latina.com about what fans can expect from the upcoming ABC season, his favorite television shows, and more! Check it out below:

Congrats on your ALMA nomination! Do you have a special place ready for the award if you win?

“Yes, I have a special case for awards so I’ll probably just put it there. I’m so excited and humbled by the nomination. It’s awesome when people even notice that I’m an actor.”

The new season of Castle starts at the end of September. What can fans expect from your character?

“This season we are going to get to see more of Javier, so I’m excited about that. In one of the episodes that we shot, you will get to see his reaction to being the center of attention. You will also get to see him sing a little bit.”

What’s the behind-the-scenes like while you are filming?

“I love the cast and crew. There are a lot of laughs behind-the-scenes and in front of the camera. We are always hanging out late. We are such a fun loving group and we bring that vibe to the drama.”

You are also an Air Force veteran. How has that experience influenced your acting?

“There’s a sense of mission and discipline that you learn when you are serving. You also learn how to take initiative. If you want something, you can’t wait for someone to make it happen for you. I apply all of those lessons to my career today.”

What are some of your favorite television shows?

“Right now I’m really into Game of Thrones. I love The Good Wife. That’s good television right there! Another one is Breaking Bad. It’s such a well-written show.”

What do you hope for your career in the future? Where do you envision yourself?

“That’s a tough question for me. I hope to be making television shows and films, and creating content that captivates Latinos. I try not to think about it too much though. I’m more focused in the present. I’m a simple kind of guy so I just envision myself being happy.”

The new season of Castle premieres Septemer 24 on ABC.
