George Lopez Delivers Comedy Gold with "Tall, Dark & Chicano"

This weekend George Lopez performed live in front of a sold out crowd at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas for his highly anticipated live HBO special Tall, Dark & Chicano. Lopez held the attention of the huge crowd of approximately 15 thousand, regaling those in attendance with some hilarious bits about how Brad Pitt and Obama are both honorary Latinos—in Obama's case because his mother-in-law moved in to help raise the kids.
The show will likely cause some controversy, with many saying that his jokes are too racially charged, but we thought it was laugh-out-loud hysterical!
Check out the video below and tell us: Did you watch George Lopez's special? What did you think about the Tall, Dark & Chicano special?

It's ridiculouse and it crosses the line. If you know of the comments George lopez makes as well as the way he conducts his life and you still support him you re disgusting. The man refused to take a kidney from a white person. You say he represents you? If that's the case then I would love to club you. Is that offensive? It's a reference to a joke he made about clubbing white people.

We are all bozos on this bus together. Not all white people are republicans. So far I have watch all of George Lopez's shows and this last HBO show three times. George is first and foremost a brilliant entertainer. He is relevant and really funny and for me he is an educator. George's line "This is the way we learn." As a non-Latino he has made me aware of many different things about the Latin culture.
I can't wait till this last show comes out on DVD so I can show it to my friends.
Thank you George Lopez

I was a part of the audience at the HBO special in San Anonio and I am very proud to say that George Lopez put on a GREAT performance. He spoke the truth about republicans and how we (Latinos/Mexicans/Chicanos) are not wanted in the republican party. It's about time we step up and make a difference. His comments about other people of different color of skin may have been out there but c'mon he is a MEXICAN COMEDIAN aren't all comedians of their own skin color comical about people of other skin colors other than their own? He would not have SOLD OUT a crowd of 15,000 MEXICANS otherwise. For those people who did not like the language he used well too bad the show was for adults with an open mind and NOT for children! If you were watching on TV before it started the warning of ADULT LANGUAGE was made aware of. He has an AWSOME show for the whole family on NICKELODEON that your children can watch. I have a ten year old son who loves George Lopez and likes to watch his show, he knew his father and I were going to this performance and asked if he could come along? The answer was NO you can watch him on NICK, this is a show for adults only. It was your responsibility not to allow your child to watch if you did not want them exposed to that type of language. I have to say I had a great time and GEORGE LOPEZ you are a man of much respect. It's because of Latinos like you that we are going to make a difference in this world. Our children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren will be able to someday stand tall and be proud of who they are and where they came from. Veronica GO SPURS GO!

I watched George's and some of his material was alittle tough but I understand as a Chicano. His comments about the republicans is some what true and some of those Senaters will lose their seats. The republicans do not want latinos in their party at this time. What they dont understand is Latinos want respect and we dont forget. We are proud just like any other American. Just a thought if your a republican. I dont agree all white folks are monolithic nor are all Latinos. We are all different but I have to agree with him on latinos speaking up. I bet you cant name one latino leader in this country and only three tv media personalities Soledad O'Brien Rick Sanchez and Gerado Rivera thats it and two of the three are half latino. With 45 million native born and legal latinos in this country thats it thats sad. We as a people keep quiet and mind our own business and when things or words are said about us in this great country we dont say a word. We even got pundits on tv who are not latino speaking for us. With that I agree with George we need more media folks who are latino. On Lou Dodds he needs to get his facts straight first of all the 12 million illegals are from all over the world believe it or not there are people in this country illegally from Ireland Russia the Far East Europe Africa South and Central America. Half the people crossing the Mexican Border are not even Mexican. They come from Central America where their economy is even worst then Mexico. Lou has convince everyone that all Latinos are Mexican and just got here. We are many nations and many cultures. My family came here in 1864. I was born and raise here bleed red white and blue served twenty years in Special Forces and retired honorably and now a successful businessman. I love this country and every color and culture in it but I understand George's frustration. We need leaders and the media to educate our country on the facts not racist rhetoric coming from some in the national media with an hatred toward hispanics. It remind me of the 80's when the problem for some was with the Asia Invasion if your old enough to remember. Every day in the news was about asian folks coming from China Japan overtaking California. That lasted for a decade. This country is changing the door is wide open and no one can change that but its a melting pot and for this reason is why we are a super power. People from all over the world making one nation. As for comment about someone's kids I have kids too and I know if a comic is going to be on HBO it is not for kids to see or hear. Its for grown folks. George Lopez in my book is awesome but please dont be so hard on white folks George we need our white friends as Kat Williams will tell you.

Normally I like GL, I used to watch his show, but I turned off his special after 10 minutes. It was like he was the Al Sharpton of comedy. This Latina thought it was stupid and offensive. He should have stuck to Chicano and not used the word Latino at all. The horrible stuff he said about white people isn't anything I can relate to and does not represent the experience of all Latinos. Latinos to do not speak with one voice, we are a diverse group of people from different cultures and countries. Oh and his crack about Lou Dobbs not being able to keep his Latina in line. Newsflash George, NO ONE keeps a Latina in line. We do as we please.

Darla- you were obviously and immediately made uncomfortable with George's newest presentation, and personally I see and feel that you took it way too personal- too bad-I almost feel that you took it to the level that low dobbs does the under-documented people...using words like the illegals!
As Mexican Americans, we are ALL uniting so to finally speak up against abuse, broken laws, and the on going and horrendous political persecutions against OUR gente!
We ARE NOT holding back EVER like we always do/did and have...in regards to the white man's way of treating us-open your mind, and your heart, and know that we speak only of the "white power trippers"-if you are not of MEXICAN decent then it is obvious that you will not listen to anyone other than the genetic tie that interests you and your gente?!
The problem in our country today-is that we are all now officially kept in perpetual CONFUSION-because now we are "latinos"..what a sad thing for all of us that might buy in to this detrimental labeling that is cleverly placed to keep injuring us by assimilating all of us, and is simply very insulting to and for our true origin and identities.
low dobbs is the one that we "latinos"should all be turning off-he is DANGEROUS and cunning...and an obviously one track white elite/supremist-minded type.
It might help you to understand if you remember that George Lopez is an entertainer, and obviously you are not the audience that he was catering to..you refused to see, and unfortunately you failed to notice his success verdad?
This reminds me of folk that like buying Monet art prints, yet they have no idea what the artist's history or life was about..an oddly ignorant personality type.
You should have at least tried to keep yourself together long enough to listen to how many people he was catering to in that facility in San Antonio,Tejas!
We are UNITED!
Thank-you mi hermosa gente latina!
The only thing that we have done wrong here in our country is pretend that we are without spirit.
Furthermore you should have seen the DIVERSITY of humans in that place!
Darla I am so sorry that you killed the opportunity to fully get the "real message" delivered by my carnal George Lopez
If anything that he said; offended you, it was simply because that's the reaction that you had, through and perhaps because of your own personal beliefs.
I applauded George in my heart throughout all that presentation..it took a lot of guts to get down and dirty on that stage-hey but sometimes the message to be delivered, isn't always supposed to look pretty.
Ironically, he did mention the way some of us "latino/as" like everything to feel, look ,and smell pretty, but of course he used a very mexican form to relay that truth.
love is everywhere-catch it!
The most brave part of his act was to succumb to using the term LATINO-and obviously did so, only to please the weak at heart.

Okay, I teach in a high school where my students remind me often that "I am the minority." That is so true, They are Latino and I am not, I am white. There is no other way to describe me. I do not tan, I was raised in the south and I have a "funny" accent and I am white all the way around visually. There is one difference in me and what people see when they see me from the outside: I am fully aware that they - these children have plenty to give to this world. I look that them very differenty than many teachers do I think. 1. The are children, it doesn't make a difference where they are from they are just children there for me to teach the best that I can. Sometimes that means doing things a little differently to fit into their culture but that is okay with me. I teach individual children and they all are different in some ways. Because they are children they have a right, by law, to an equal eduacation! I want to give them just that!
2. I let the kids share their culture with me. I tell them that they have just as much to teach me as I do them. I think that it is out of this respect for them that they gain respect for me. I want them to be proud of where they are from and not ashamed. That is how a families history gets lost after just a few generations. I have been married to two men, one portuguese (second generation) and one (second generation Italian). The latter is very proud of his culture and history, the first one kind of hid it. I think that it is something to be celebrated. Parents gave up their lives to bring their children to a new land in hopes of giving them a better life...how respectible is that? I admire those parents! I enjoy when we have the time to discuss who their family celebrates holidays and what foods they prepare. I do the same with them...the get their little mini lessons on how people from Alabama live and eat. I always try and bring little things back to them after I have been home.
3. I have encouraged my students to find jobs that they are interested in doing and then we find out what they have to go to get that job. I have tried to show them that ethnic barriers are only a problem if you allow them to be. Well, the poor little white girl didn't necessarily grow up on the right side of the tracks and had to work hard to get to where she is today! I really do believe that if you work hard enough and are a good person, it will all be rewarded!
At the beginning to school each year I tell them that in a way I am color blind...I don't care if you are purple with green polka dots on you, you will be treated fairly in my room. I stick to that all year. It really never makes a difference the color of you skin. I believe the sky is the limit for my kids, the only limit is the ones that they put on themselves!
The have told me that I am not honarary Mexican...I feel honored, be cause I new that to them it was an honor! My heart is with these kids everyday, I cannot imagine it anyplace else...they are my kids! What can brown do for you...let us show you!

Wife and I turned it off. It was really disappointing because we love-or loved his comedy up to this special in San Antonio. My kids love his show. But for the guy to stand there and scream "F*&K... White people" and mock how he's widening the racial gap and then go on and on about how if you voted against the first potential Latino supreme court justice you must be racist and you're gonna pay, was just a joke. He proved he's the one who's racist by adopting a tired old racist technique-If you're the same race I am-then whatever you're saying, doing, and believe, is O.K. with me-cause we're the same race. It's like the thousands of people who voted for Obama, simply because he was black-sorry folks that's voting based on color-you can't call it anything else. Apparently it's O.K. to do, unless your white, then it's racism.
It's just a shame-I thought he was smarter than that. Anyway-my kids are done with him now-at 13 and 15 they get enough racism in the public school system-they aren't gonna watch and support an actor/comedian who decides to use his platform at a sold out "comedy" show to scream things like that and try to whip the crowd into a frenzy with racial tension. Can you imagine a white comedian screaming "F*&K Latino's" because of their political opinions. That'd be a short career. Stick to the comedy George-if you want to spout racism-become a politician or prepare to be marginalized like all the other racist idiots out there.
