Sofia Vergara’s heavy accent will be thrown out of the window in her latest role. That’s because the Colombian actress will be speaking her native tongue.

The beloved Modern Family star has returned to the Spanish-language telenovela world with the recent filming of a “mini telenovela,” NBC Latino reports.

The Spanish-language soap, which was produced in Long Island, New York, is reportedly made up of eight episodes and will be broadcast in every single Latin American country with the exception of Brazil.

Before crossing over into the English-language mainstream world, Vergara was known for roles in shows such as Amas de Casa Desesperadas (aka the Colombian version of Desperate Housewives). It’s great to see the actress dig into a Spanish-language project.

In a press release, 40-year-old Vergara was reluctant to offer more details about it. She said “it’s going to be a surprise.”

“I had so much fun creating this project and I hope people throughout Latin America enjoy it,” she added in the statement. Details regarding the actress’ character is being kept very secret for now.

What do you think about Vergara’s move back to Spanish-language projects with this telenovela?
