There are designers who create clothing for girls, and then there are designers who target the grown and subtly sexy. Venezuelan-born Carolina Hererra is the latter. Heralded as the queen of chic, for spring 2008, Hererra delivers her ladies who lunch a robust offering of stellar design, uncomplicated lines and a high level of sophistication—sometimes in the most unexpected places: A trench done in subtle black-and-white lace; white eyelet lace trousers; Latin-influences found in ribbon and lace gowns and delicate embroidered shifts; toile sundresses using the image of Marilyn Monroe, for example. Playing with a palette of reds—including roses ands pinks—white, grey and black and white with a few creams, Hererra, again proves that it's a woman's world and these are the reasons we love to play in it. —MAC
