7 Steps to Survive Cuffing Season According to Francesca Hogi

With winter just around the corner, people may be gearing up for the cold weather, but a new jacket and earmuffs aren't the only things on their shopping lists. This is the time where many singles start looking for a new "bae" in preparation for the common dating ritual known as "cuffing season." For those trying to make meaning of this annual phenomenon, it can be defined as the time period where people want to stray away from their promiscuous lifestyles and enter into relationships (during the fall and winter months).

Dr. Helen Fisher, Match's chief scientific advisors says that there is science behind this dating occurrence;  "With the shortening days of autumn, melatonin elevates in the brain-- making people more sluggish and eager to lounge at home, preferably with a sweetheart. Then, testosterone rises in November triggering even more desire to snuggle with a lover. By then, 'cuffing season' is in full bloom."

Match paired up with dating expert and former Survivor contestant, Francesca Hogi, to create a survival guide of important tips to help get singles through the next couple of months, and with cuffing season officially starting on November 5th, it's time for singles to begin preparing.

Check out Hogi's 7 tips that will have you cuddled up with your new bae in no time!

It's time to reignite some old flames; "Remember that one guy you dated for a while, but it sort of just fizzled out? Reach out and see if he’s available," says Hogi.

3. Prioritize the people who prioritize you

If you're not with someone who is making you feel important, they need to go. So if you're searching for your constant cuddle buddy listen to Hogi's straight facts; "Winter is coming, and there’s no time for games. If you’re an option and not priority, forget it."

With football in season and basketball just starting preseason it's the perfect time to chug a beer and meet your potential winter lover.

5. Be honest about wanting a relationship

Honesty is the best policy so playing it off like your not the "commitment type" is a huge no-no. Hogi says, "Be honest about wanting a relationship so you attract the right people with the same idea!"
