Why I love being Latina & why I want to instill that in my children? Latina is synonymous with hard working, multi-tasking, nurturing, passionate, tough and beautiful. Latina is synonymous with getting it done even when it doesn't look like anything is going your way! When I feel like I can't do anymore, I remember who I am, yo soy Latina! I love being a Latina! I know that we feed off of each other, other Latina's successes are our successes. Thank you Latina magazine for existing!

I love being a latina because that is who I am. My grandfather was from Mexico and my grandmother was from Arizona they made it a point to teach my dad and his 12 siblings to learn English as thier first language. My dad learned to speak Spanish when he was much older but he never taught me I picked up from my abuelita who spoke both but was more comfortable speaking Spanish. My mom is Mexican and Greek she was very dark and did not want me to be treated differently so she never taught me about my culture I had to go to my grandparents to learn about my culture. They taught me to be proud of who I was and to embrace my heritage. I now live in the deep south and what a culture shock that is! I love to teach people about our culture and what we are really about. I am not ashamed of who I am, but very proud to wear the badge of my heritage. I am Latina, hear me roar!

can you think of a culture more proud of themselves ? We are proudest , and we have every right to be! There is something about just being a Latina that gives me strength , courage, and pride. What I love even more is being from two countries( Argentina & Cuba) having a Dominican boyfriend , and having Columbian & Cuban best friends. We all relate to each other for our love of music, food, values , and more. We know how to have a good time ,and be there for each other always!

I love all the answers..my personal reason of why Ilove being a Latina comes from my mother, she is a proud Mexican-American woman who has instilled her values in me. Coming from parents who were migrant farm workers most of their lives, they both showed me that working hard would get you everywhere. I try everyday to instill everything that my mother showed me in my own daughters. I am the woman, i am today because of my mother, a strong, loving, Mexican-american.

Two words "Ms. Morales" makes me proud to be Latina, she inspires, and gives selflessly to so many others without expecting a return for herself.
She works with teens helping them to go college, she has created what she calls a "peer pipeline" for college and has seniors in high school visiting grades kinder to 12 to talk about college and college students she helped come back to talk to seniors.
She just started a lending library at juvenile hall to allow kids to read on their free time, there is no library there so she buys 30 books each time, takes book donations and at times buys some at the bookstore when kids really want a title.
She leads by example as she goes to college and she forces kids to apply to college, financial aid and scholarships (even if they do not want to or think they cannot go) she takes them to visit the schools. She has done sooooooo much more.
"Ms. Morales" inspires me as a person for she changes the community and I am also proud to be her daughter!

I write this brief response to “Why I love being Latina” from my perspective of course, which represents having lived in both cultures and countries from my earliest childhood to present day.
To be Latina is to have an individuality that surpasses other cultures. We greet each other with a hug and kiss or just verbally. You never pass a person without a greeting. Even when we leave our homes our mother’s bless us to keep us safe from the outside world.
Latin’s have a strong Patriarchal society. However, Latin men have proper respect for women, family and home. The family is of crucial importance to the Latin culture. The family always comes first. We are not a disposable society as are Americans. Grandparents or an unmarried Aunt may live in the households. In some families, several generations live in the parental home, depending on the size of the home. If one family member struggles financially, emotionally or in any other aspect, they all struggle.
The work ethic, which was brutally depicted by Americans as “lazy”, is far from the truth. Siestas came from Mexico and there they are taken because the father returns home to eat lunch with his children. Yes, they nap, but later return to work and are usually not home until 8:00 or 9:00 p.m. The reason Latin’s eat supper at this late hour is because they work late. Here in the U.S. we work only an eight-hour day, so we do not nap, unless someone is not looking.
With respect to marriage, children do not leave their parental home until they are prepared to marry. Homes are prepared and arranged prior to the person marrying. Often time’s households are located on the same properties as the parental home or in close proximity. Courtship and serenades continue to prosper as do marriages. Divorce carries a stigma, which unfortunately was lost decades ago in the United States. The same can be said for pregnancy without marriage, which is a major disgrace.
We use natural medicines that grow in our backyards. We have our legends, superstitions, coming out parties, as do other cultures. Some of these legends and superstitions are actually now been incorporated to the American way of life. Curiously, we take parts of their culture, they take part of ours and really, we all share in similar cultural dynamics. Finally, Latina women are vivacious, sexy, intelligent and full of life!
Thanks for letting me have my say, TD:)

"Reasons to love being Latina" Were do I begin? Being latina means being unique. Within the latin women you find many things that are very special besides being nurturing women, warm, creative, but, one thing that always stays with me is that Within the latin women you can find all varieties more so then in other cultures. Different in hair color, eye color, height, shapes, skin complexion etc... You can find any kind of women with in the latin culture. Viva las latinas, Chow.

I Love being a Latina. We are confident, smart and passionate about everything we do. A Latina woman comes in all different colors and size. Just like our Music comes in all different beats and sounds. A Latina Woman is always proud to tell someone I am a Latina and I am proud of it. Our culture is rich and welcoming. Our language is romantic, even the phrase "I Love you" sounds so much better in Spanish. "Te Amo". A Latina woman is a Superwoman, we manage kids, husband and a career, school, and boyfriends all at once and we still find time to look good. I wouldn't change my culture for anything in the world. I Love being a Latina!

Its like there is only one way to put it...we are not like others! WE STAND OUT! From our curly-wavy hair right to our curves. Im proud of being Latina. Our generation is on the rise. The modeling agencies want more Latinas because they know we can bring it. And our music is out of this world! We are very passionate in the things we do, and a lot of people mistake that for an attitude. We range from light-to dark brown, curly hair-to straight hair, from hip hop-to country, but we all have something in common. WE ARE LATINA!! Latina is found from within, not something you go out and decide to be one day. Either you're Latina or not. We're not fake, we stand strong, and when we want something we go for it. Now, that is defintion of being Latina.

One big reason why I love being Latina is the diversity within the culture. A Latina can have any hair texture, any skin color, any eye color. There are Latinas with indigenous ancestry, African, European, Asian and more (often a mix of more than one!) Even the language varies by region.
