Why do YOU love being Latina?

As we gear up for our June/July double issue, aka our annual “Reasons To Love Being Latina” edition, we’d like to hear from you, our beloved readers! So, in your own words, break down the people, places, or things that make you happy, proud, or grateful to be a Latina. Don’t be shy—there’s a reason this is our most popular issue of the year, and that’s because there’s more than enough reasons to go around. One big reason why I love being Latina is the diversity within the culture. A Latina can have any hair texture, any skin color, any eye color. There are Latinas with indigenous ancestry, African, European, Asian and more (often a mix of more than one!) Even the language varies by region.

Why do I love being Latina? Because no matter our age, nationality, weight, or skin color we "drop-it-like-its-hot"! We are smart, confident, sexy and we dare someone say otherwise. So if anyone sees a Latina she could be blonde hair with eyes like the ocean or dark skin with eyes of mocha, she could be an executive of a company or work in a hair salon, she could be shaped like a slim jim or a coca cola bottle, she could be 19 or 59, Ecuadorian or Puerto Rican- either way you encounter her...she'll demand your respect and walk with pride. That inner peace, inner beauty and self pride that comes from knowing who you are and loving yourself is what makes me happy to be Latina!

I love being Latina for many different reasons.. 1) Food we have very flavorful and colorful foods, 2) Work ethic we are very strong workers and we don't give up we keep going no matter the obstacle. 3) Dance we know rythem and we know how to move our bodies to it. 4) Our lives have meaning to us and we go for our dreams and we manage to overcome obstacles that come our way. 5) Familia means alot to us and we stick together no matter what and we look out for each other. There are many many more reasons but those are just the few.

Wow, these are such good answers! Let's see, for me, it's because of how hard working we are as a people. It doesn't matter what our circumstances are, we do what we have to do to survive in this country, like nportil said.

The reason I love being latina..is more because of a personal reason..don't get me wrong but I love our culture and there are so much flavour in everything we do like some of the other readers pointed out , music...dance...fiestas. But for me it's because of how much our people have accomplished. My mom came accross the border ilegally 28 years ago by herself..so that her kids could have a better life being born and raised in America. Thanks to her I was able to get an education ...and make my dream of becoming a radio host a reality. I never forget where I came from and the sacrifice my mom made coming to a different country where she didn't know the language or culture....but thanks to her and her bravery I have my very own spanish radio show in a country that doesn't have many latinos but I have made it my responsablity to unite the few latinos living in Canada. Siempre me voy a sentir muy orgullosa de ser latina. My Thanks to all the parents who decided to cross the border ilegally thinking not about themselves but their families...and My prayers go out to thoes who to this day cross them looking for better opertunities.

My Reasons for Lovin' La Vida Latina: 1) DIVERSITY: Just among us Latinos, there's enough color, flava, hair texture, musical diversity, cultural color and luscious latin lingo to go around, and then some! We're a tapestry of Latin Love! 2) FAMILY: La Familia es lo mas importante. 3) WARMTH: We are a warm, welcoming, touchy/feely, very happy and loud sort of people. 4) SEXINESS: We're a HOT people! I really think that we ooze sensuality, sometimes just by our features. 5) DANCE: Our dances are so rythmic and sexy! 6) BOB: Best of Both Worlds: Successful English speaking people with a separate culture all our own that makes us unique among our American counterparts. 7) LANGUAGE: Spanish is one of the Romance Languages, it always amazes me how the simplest of thoughts sounds so poetic when expressed in Spanish. 8) FUN: The simplest of occasions turns into a full fledged PARTY! Decorations, music, dancing, food and lots of happy friends! 9) PASSION: It doesn't matter the country- every Latino(a) exudes passion. We love passionately, fight passionately and work passionately. 10) FOOD: Among the humblest, but most, flavorful food in the WORLD!

Nuestra cultura, most important, we have so much culture that no other race has. Music, I will have to say is the number 1 reason as to why, I love knowing, that I am Latina. Are music as has no limit, from Hip Hop to Rancheras, what other culture in the world has this? Comidas, el sabor de nuestra comida es unico. We have fun with are Familia, are fiestas are known for the music and the food, making us the most happy culture known.
