A joyous Christmas turned into fear after an earthquake of magnitude 4.7 struck southern Mexico.
Many left their homes after the quake was felt near the resort town of Acapulco. According to The Associated Press, Sabas de la Rosa Camacho, Civil Defense Chief, revealed some shopping malls around the area were also evacuated.
While no injuries or damage have been reported, the earthquake did trigger the seismic alarm system in Mexico City.
Back in September, central Mexico was struck with a magnitude-7.1 earthquake that took the life of hundreds. Among the deadly incidents caused by the natural disaster was a collapsed primary school in the southern part of Mexico City that left first responders searching through the rubble for victims.
The earthquake came on the anniversary of the 1985 earthquake that killed thousands in Mexico City.
