The teen is the only shooting victim that is still hospitalized after the deadly shooting that killed seventeen of his classmates. Broward Health spokeswoman Jennifer Smith said on Thursday that Anthony has downgraded from fair to critical condition.

During the mass shooting, Borges barricaded the door with his body saving the lives of his fellow classmates. Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel visited Anthony in the hospital four days after the shooting.

Anthony's family have stated they plan to sue Broward County, Broward County Public Schools, and the Broward County Sherrif's Office. In the notice of intent to sue, the family's attorney stated, "The failure of Broward County Public Schools, and of the Principal and School Resource Officer to adequately protect students, and in particular, our client, from life-threatening harm were unreasonable, callous and negligent."
