On this week's Bruja and Blessed, host Connie Chavez sat down with rapper and social justice advocate Nitty Scott, MC to talk about breaking mental health stigma and finding help through self-love rituals and sisterhood.
The part-Puerto Rican bruja courageously shares her story of being a young LGBTQ runaway, and how unhealthy relationships, body image issues and cultural stigma gave rise to depression, panic attacks and anxiety. She was eventually diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and had difficulty accepting her condition. Overtime, however, she was able to manage her symptoms through medical help and spirituality. Today, Nitty is in a better place and wants to use her platform to create visibility for those who have a mental illness. She has created a support group for women that have undergone trauma called The Lotus Club, where she leads group talks, art therapy and healing circles as well as provides mental health resources and guest speakers.
