According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, one in every four women will experience domestic violence in their lifetime.
The statistics are scary, but in an effort to spark change during domestic violence month, The Allstate Foundation and Rosario Dawson are raising awareness for the Purple Purse Campaign, which aims to donate over $250,000 to the YWCA for their domestic violence survivors and women in need.
In a statement, Rosario said, “As an advocate to end violence against women, I know that most people agree it is hard to talk about domestic violence,” she also added, “Resources like the Purple Purse are very important as they give victims, and those who want to help, the power to do something and speak up without shame or fear.”
As part of their campaign, The Allstate Foundation will be spreading purple purses filled with domestic violence information. Each purse will be shared and passed on by family and friends. In exchange, the company will donate $10 each time the purse is checked in at purplepurse.com.
We joined the fight, and encourage you to do the same.
