As we bring 2016 to a close, we can all agree that all we want for Christmas is peace on earth and good will toward men. But in this video, the common holiday saying gets taken to a whoooollleee new level.
Latina comedian and actress Carla Valderrama re-wrote "White Christmas" to suit her real needs for the holiday and new year: a Woke Christmas. In this parody, she cites Colin Kapernick protest, Donald Trump's racism, Brock Turner's lenient sentence and movements like Black Lives Matter, #NoDAPL and #OscarsSoWhite, among so much more, as reasons we need to stay woke.
"Every year, I put ['White Christmas'] on blast all day," Valderrama told The Huffington Post. "This year, I didn't want that. I didn't want a 'White Christmas.' I wanted something to remind people that there is more than one reality to life in this country. I wanted a 'Woke Christmas'."
"I was sick and tired of being sick and tired of all the racial and social injustices that were happening," she added. "Usually, I can't wait for Christmas and all the music, but this year it seemed so phony. I decided to write a Christmas song that added all of the things that I and others were feeling."
We're SO with this. Watch and enjoy the new holiday hit above.
