A new video campaign, starring Rosie Perez and more, is urging Congress to oppose president-elect Donald Trump should he pursue “racist, sexist, anti-immigrant, anti-union, anti-environmental policies.”
In the #StandUpForUS video from Art Not War, the Puerto Rican star is joined by celebrities like Sally Field and Keegan-Michael Key as well as activists like Janet Mock, Ai-jen Poo and Yasmeen Hassan, among many more.
“We demand that you block nominees who threaten the rights of women, the LGBT community, people of color, immigrants, and the poor,” Key and Field say in the video released Tuesday, the same day the 115th Congress was sworn in.
Political celebrity videos like this one have recently been criticized as ineffective, with Hillary Clinton’s election loss as commentators’ proof.
But Perez, noting that the video is “not a celebrity-driven video, it is an American-citizen-driven video," said that it "does work."
“No matter how many times you want to say the people voted for him, that is not the truth. The majority of the people did not vote for this man,” she said during an interview on “PopPolitics” on SiriusXM.
